Shepherd Huts

We build our shepherd huts mainly from timber. The details are below.

CHASSIS

The main chassis is constructed using green oak beams which have been joined using traditional mortise and tenon joints. The cast iron axles and wheels are then bolted to the frame. A treated timber frame is then added to provide a solid platform for the floor and walls. The platform is then covered in ply ready for the walls.

Our axles are fixed so the hut can be moved but require the front to be lifted when turning. The wheels can then be fitted lower making a more stable hut. This makes them lower to the ground so they are more accessible and ramps instead of steps can be fitted in small areas to allow for disabled access.

WALLS

The wall frames are constructed using pressure treated timber and then covered in ply to ensure they are rigid and there is no movement. They are then covered in a breathable, waterproof membrane.

The internal walls on the basic hut are left with the exposed frame showing. On the finished hut the walls are normally insulated and then moisture resistant MDF panels are fitted and finished.

ROOF

The roof is constructed using pressure treated timber then covered in ply and a waterproof membrane. The corrugated roof sheets are then painted to any colour and fitted.

The interior ceiling on the basic hut is left exposed, the finished huts are insulated and then wooden tongue and groove boards are fitted.

FLOORING

The basic hut has a hardwood ply floor. Any flooring can be fitted but we recommend engineered wood flooring. We are happy to fit any flooring you would like.

DOORS

We fit as standard redwood French doors which we love as it opens up the indoor space to the outside deck area. Standard wooden doors or stable doors can also be fitted. They can be painted in any colour of your choice. Hardwood windows can be fitted if required. We can quote for this.

WINDOWS

We fit two windows as standard with one main window in one side with two openers and one small window which also opens at the end. These are also made from redwood, hardwood available if needed. Quotes on request.

DECKING, PORCH AREA

Our shepherd huts are fairly unique as they have a covered porch area. These have two main support posts and a optional handrail can be fitted.

Larch decking is installed as standard. Steps to the shepherd hut are made from oak and larch.

ELECTRICS

The show hut has underfloor heating with remote control, three double sockets, one with USB charging points and LED down lighters. These are installed by a competent electrician and a safety certificate is issued
